Haslam Scholars

The Haslam Scholars Program is UT’s premiere specialized honors program.  Haslam Scholars enjoy unsurpassed benefits, including UT’s top competitive named scholarships and an intimate and intensive four-year curriculum.  In addition to receiving a laptop computer and participating in specialized extracurricular, service-learning, and summer enrichment experiences, Haslam Scholars also receive the equivalent of $4000 in support of a joint study abroad experience and over $5000 in support of individual thesis research.

The Haslam Scholars Program’s exceptional benefits are balanced by an emphasis on leadership, service, and responsibility to others.  Haslam Scholars commit to learning with and from their peers through a series of common experiences. This process begins with an exclusive summer program for entering freshmen and concludes with a senior seminar.  Scholars are also expected to provide leadership on campus and in the community as well as vie for nationally competitive post-baccalaureate scholarships and admission to top graduate and professional schools.

The Haslam Scholars Program admits 15 first-year Chancellor's Honors students annually.  The selection committee seeks a diverse group of students of exceptional academic ability whose complementary leadership strengths are deemed most likely to advance the program’s mission.  High school seniors must request or be invited to participate in an initial interview with the director of the Chancellor’s Honors & Haslam Scholars Programs. Finalists will then be invited to interview with a selection committee during a weekend in March, when the Haslam Scholars will be named.
